The Program for Bag #14 was drawn by Doug Baldwin. Notice little Emma Guido in my arms and the way my hair is sticking out. The frazzled look of a new father.

THE YEAR OF THE BABY GIRL
During this past year there have been five baby girls born to members of the Paper Bag family. We would like to welcome these little nippers to the world and wish them a pleasant life and many Bags to come.

Cassandra Gruebel 5/26/90
Emma Jeanne Guido 5/20/91
Erin Christine Lawshe 2/5/91
Taylor Altman 5/21/91
Allison Gay Hebel 2/21/91

WE FROM WITHIN THE BAG would like to thank
our husbands/wives/boyfriends/girlfriends/children/family members-in-general for putting up with this madness we go through every year. Also deserving recognition are the following: Henry's Bar (where the shoe fits), New York Ave, Dakota Rose, Linda at Copy Time (where I always miss my deadline), Dave's Mom at Stone Container (the Paper bag factory that supplies the bags you all play with), Mark at Wolf's, Dick at Supreme Trophy, the crews from Lightcraft, S-K Sound and Rainbow Video who all perform above and beyond the call of duty, and most of all you, the audience, because without you guys there is no show. Everybody get home safely now.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE PAPER BAG by Mike Guido
In 1973 I was in a band called The Phil Gagliano Band. We went to see the movie Pink Flamingos at the Uniondale Mini-Cimema and the drummer, Don Civitella, was inspired to write a song called Paper Bag. In later years as I moved from band to band, people would call for the song at gigs, even though we didn't play it. Finally, late one night in Chelsea's in Huntington we did it and it became sort of a cult thing. In the mid-seventies there was an annual festival, known as The People's Picnic, hosted by the Lashnitz family in a town called Whitehall in upstate New York. It was a 3 day deal with bands, beer and a barrel of fun. I had the honor of being the house sound engineer for the final two years, 1978 and 1979. In`78 I was in a band called Cutaway and we played at the Picnic. In `79, however I wasn't in an active band but I still wanted to play. From the dark recesses of my mind I conjured up the notion that on the last day of the festival, I would get the musicians from all the bands on stage at once and that would be "my band". Between songs, instead of stopping we would play the Paper Bag theme. Get it? We performed with 17 players to several hundred people wearing bags on their heads. We had so much fun that we did it again 3 weeks later at The Silver Dollar in Bay Shore. Since then each year the Bag has grown bit by bit to the monster that we put before you today. We are now up to 130 participants, including 58 musicians, technical and support staff, and the Ladies Auxiliary. Every one of these 130 people is a friend of mine and I am proud to be associated with them. We hope that our little show brings some joy into your life and that you return every year so we can continue to let it all out on the last Tuesday in June, every year.
Thank you.
